James & Peter Mannix, sons of Ellen Bourke & John Mannix.

3. JAMES MANNIX: James Mannix was the third child and first son born to Ellen and John Mannix. He was born at Burramine in 1888.
Named after his paternal grandfather, little James Mannix died in infancy and was buried in the Burramine Cemetery.

4. JAMES PETER MANNIX: Known as ‘Peter’, the second son of John and Ellen Mannix was born in 1889. Like their first son, Peter also died at a very early age, and joined his brother in the Burramine Cemetery.

The tragedy of these two little boys is that their parents lost them within four weeks of each other. Peter died first, on June 24, 1889. He had been born with massive problems, and survived only fifteen minutes. His cause of death was given as " Not fully developed, and rupture of tumour on spine." Verdict at Inquiry held by a Justice of the Peace in Yarrawonga found the baby to be 'malformed'. He was buried in the Burramine Cemetery the following day, June 25, with his maternal Uncles Edmund and John Bourke as witnesses.
The following month, on July 29, 17 month old James Mannix passed away after an 11 hour bout of croup. He joined his baby brother in the Burramine cemetery on July 31, with the event witnessed by his father John Mannix and uncle Patrick Bourke.
